I made this Green Bean and Cherry Tomato Salad that I found over at Smitten Kitchen for the church potluck yesterday. It was so pretty and quite delicious. I wish that I would have taken a picture of mine, but I forgot.
Check out Smitten Kitchen’s pic.
Oh how I would love to cook more often - but it is not so much fun to cook for one, not to mention that my apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher. Happy Monday Everyone!

Isn’t this super fun?

Did I mention that I received 7 pair of shoes for Valentine’s Day?!? I am so excited and I just can’t hide it - I am about to lose control - oops sorry, I was having an Eighties moment there. I love shoes. I love new shoes. I love that I got to go shopping and pick out all the shoes I wanted. It was the best!
I am wearing this pair today and they are super cute…
They are a satin Madras from Target. They are even cuter in person - and comfortable too!
Thanks dear - you are the best.

Throughout elementary school, I had a really nice friend that I will call Mindy. Mindy had the best sleepovers ever. She invited many of the girls from my class over a few times each school year. Mindy’s house was a blast - her mom would take us all to the grocery store and let us put whatever we wanted in the cart. It was great - my mom never let me choose which groceries to buy - Needless to say we pigged out the entire time we were there. Whenever we weren’t stuffing our faces with snacks that were horrible for us, we were all in the hot tub in their garage. After the thrill of the jacuzzi wore off a bit, we would head inside to play the some random game or watch a movie. I remember one time we called random numbers in the phone book and told people we were calling from America’s Top 40 with Casey Kasem to find out what their favorite song was…of course that was before everyone had caller id or *69. Another time we watched Dirty Dancing - and sat around and discussed how one could become pregnant from dirty dancing. Boy, as a 4th grader I believed that - I wasn’t sure how all that stuff worked - but I knew I was not ever going to dirty dance. Another time we all memorized all the words to “She shook me all night long.” I had no idea what that song meant either. I was so naive. The best part of Mindy’s house is that her mom let us sleep outside on the trampoline. It was awesome. We laid out there in our sleeping bags reading Teen Magazine and Teen Beat - drooling over Corey Haim. It was the eighties and it rocked.
Then in 6th grade Mindy’s mom disappeared. Mindy and her sister were left there with their stepdad, George. George had explained to everyone that his wife had left him for another man. He told the girls that their mom was somewhere in New Hampshire. The girls were devastated. They had no idea were there mom was and why she didn’t call them. Everyone felt sorry for George and expressed what a good man he was for taking care of his stepdaughters even though his wife left without a trace.
Throughout 6th grade Mindy continued to have sleepovers for all the girls. Her step dad was always there, but he kept to himself a lot. Mindy just didn’t talk about her mom a lot and none of us really brought it up to much either.
Things changed for me in 7th grade because I went away to boarding school. In the fall of my first year away, I got a call from my mother. She told me that Mindy’s mom had been found. Wow - I knew that Mindy would be happy, but my excitement didn’t last long. My mom continued to tell me that Mindy’s mom was dead. The authorities found her buried below an concrete slab. It appears that she and George got into an arguement and he must have hit her and she died. He took her to another part of town and buried her below some concrete on a job he was working on.
Oh it was terrible. Poor Mindy - I never saw her again. She left to go live with her real dad in Florida. George was sent away to prison. My mom kept repeating over and over - I am a terrible mother - I let you spend the night with a murderer.

Well actually just a few of my favorite blogs…
If I could bottle up any blogger and carry her around in my pocket it would be Holly Burns. Nothing But Bonfires was the first blog that a read on a regular basis. Holly is lovely, not to mention incredibly funny. She is such an talented, engaging writer. She is the first one I always scroll to in my Google Reader. Please check her out - you will not be disappointed.
Heather of OMSH is awesome and incredibly genuine. She is a real person, with a real family, and I adore her. She bears herself candidly which I cannot seem to do myself. She is wildly popular, but still will promptly answer emails personally. Heather is top notch.
I just accidentally stumbled upon Nicole’s blog. She mostly blogs about her 2 kids and the funny things they do. They are the cutest little girls.
Jordan has a blog full of wonderful eye candy. She has impeccable taste and updates her blog regularly even though she has just had a precious newborn boy.
And last but not least is..
The. Best.Cooking.Blog.Ever. Ree is keeping it real on on the farm. I have made several of the recipes from her site and I have received rave reviews of all her recipes.

This morning as I was skimming through Google Reader, I saw an interesting post about a “love mattress” by OMSH. As I followed the link and looked around at some of the other red dot design winners, I stumbled upon this -
The nested bunk bed.
I immediately thought of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer had the Japanese tourist sleeping in a chest of drawers.
Kosmo Kramer if you are out there - you need to pick this up.

As we come to the end of the year, as usual I am thinking - it seems it like 2007 has flown by.
Since it went by so quickly - I have composed the 2007 - a year in review - to help me remember just what all happened.
Nancy Pelosi becomes the first female speaker of United States House of Representatives.
Windows Vista was introduced and quickly became a nightmare.
Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron’s home run record by hitting his 756th home run.
The most popular wedding day of the year was 07.07.07. There was even this flickr group created to celebrate that had 7777 members take 7 photos on 07.07.07 to be published in a coffee table book.
Bob Barker retired from the Price is Right after more than 35 years on the show. He was replaced by Drew Carey.
Apple released Mac OS X Leopard - and it is cool.
Apple released the iphone - and it is cool.
Apple release the ipod touch - and it is cool.
Is there a trend here?
Even though it was the year of home foreclosures, I couldn’t seem to get enough of shows like House Hunters, Flip that House, and Property Ladder.
Did anyone notice that the 2008 Presidential Election started it like February of 2007? Ridiculous… if anything the mud slinging should be shortened.
We all went Green - NBC even had an entire week of programming dedicated to the environment - Green Week.
Did I mention that I met Matt Lauer and I was on the Today show?
David Crowder Band released Remedy. We were so excited that we drove more than 1000 miles to go to the CD release party.
